Working underground in Michigan

A useful way to think about an underground job is to separate the line from the ground around it. The line decides the materials and the specification: ductile iron or plastic water main, gravity sewer laid to grade, conduit sized for future cable. The ground decides the method: an open trench in a quiet residential street, a bore beneath a busy road, a vacuum-dug pothole beside a gas line that must not be touched.

What we do for Michigan owners

MISS DIG 811 is Michigan's notification system. Under Public Act 174 of 2013 (MCL 460.725), excavators must give at least 72 hours of notice, or three business days, and no more than 14 calendar days before digging, and a ticket is valid for 21 days (180 days for long projects).
