Georgia work, one site at a time

Atlanta's suburbs, the coastal cities and the inland towns produce very different jobs, so we do not work from a standard package. We ask about the site, the line and the owner, and the scope follows from the answers.

Rights-of-way are a frequent part of Georgia jobs. Work in a public street or along a state route involves the owner of that right-of-way as well as the owner of the line, and both have a say in how the trench is opened and restored.

Typical Georgia jobs

Trenching, drilling or vacuum excavation

Where the surface can be opened, a trench is usually the most direct route. Where it cannot, because a road, a driveway or a creek is in the way, directional drilling carries the line underneath. Where other utilities crowd the work area, hydro excavation exposes them first so they can be protected.

Georgia 811

Georgia 811 (Utilities Protection Center, Inc.) receives locate requests under the Georgia Underground Facility Protection Act. Georgia law (O.C.G.A. Title 25, Chapter 9) requires notice at least two and no more than eight business days before digging, counted from 7:00 a.m. on the next business day, and a ticket is valid for 30 calendar days.
